After Carissa Moore’s awesome second ASP Women’s World Title win at the EDP Cascais presented by Billabong on Saturday, Hurley have released this cool vid. It might not quite match the Nike one from 2011 in terms of footage of her as a grom but it includes some rad action and insightful words from the new World Champ all the same. You can watch the clip below and here are some highlights of what she had to say:
I don’t regret any of the sacrifices I’ve made, I’ve missed my prom, hanging out with friends that kind of stuff in high school. I’ve had to go to bed early but so much more enjoyed being in the water early in the morning and living a great lifestyle.
My dad’s been there since the beginning, he’s my coach, my travel companion, he’s really the one who puts me in the right mind frame, he tells me the truth and gets me where I need to be for the contest. And Luke [her boyfriend] just helps me keep my mind off the competition, he’s a great distraction, it’s a good balance, my dad who helps me focus and my boyfriend who helps me not focus at the same time haha.
It’s been the closest world title race women’s surfing has ever had and to be a part of such high performances and progressiveness is amazing.
What did I remember about it?
Put on my jersey, listen to some music…nerves, craziness, awesomeness I WON, this happened. Ahhh.
The thing I’ll remember the most about today is I think it was the first time I was really proud of myself and the way I competed, handling the stress and the pressure and really showing up when I had to. It’s the first time I can be like, “Hey I can go home happy!”
Love how Hawaiians call rashies jerseys, such is their concept of warm necessity clothing!
On a shallow and totally unrelated note Carissa’s wetsuit was definitely my favourite colourway on this year’s tour. See more on Carissa Moore and Hurley here
