Oh What A Skate Night: The Girls Only Session at HTC One Skatepark

How often is there a pimping skatepark right on Oxford Street? Not often and not for long! The pop-up HTC One Skatepark at Selfridges, has been open just over a week now, and will only be in existence for another couple. So not to miss out, last night we hosted the Cooler Girls Only Session. We’d go as far to say, it was one of the best skate nights EVER.

With the skatepark purely for the ladies for one night only, it was an eagerly awaited opportunity. Having seen the set-up already shredded by a heap of people/boys, girl skaters from all over the UK made the effort to get to the HTC One park. Becky Jaques made the trek all the way from Nottingham which almost drove her up the wall and literally did when she got to the park!

Wall rides seemed to be the theme of the night, with Stef Nurding, Dani Gallacher and Camilla Mullins all spotted charging at verticals- the Selfridges bag and the sunglasses. And not in any girly sense, but the lipstick feature also proved popular, Dani showing us how to use it best. With the nice sized quarter, around the lipstick, having all sorts of tricks attempted by pro’s and learners at the same time. It was a hub of awesomeness and was sessioned until the security guards had to force skaters to leave it when the evening was up…

On the other side of the park, Savannah Keenan was throwing herself down the stairset successfully and with style. Impressive stuff that won her a prize for her efforts! One to watch for sure. And talking of ones to watch, little Hannah, the 7 year old retro board ripper was carving around, making us smile all night.

There was kick-turn practicing on the bank, ollie sessions on the flats and crews just learning to push. You could get involved wherever you fit and wherever you fancied! Plus prizes for top trips from Vans, Selfridges and HTC .The perfect sort of skate session for all.

And whilst we were practising on the quarter, Camilla Mullins had set her sights on boardsliding the rail. Which she did successfully, inspiring us all and winning an HTC (M8) Smartphone in the process!

Await the edit to see more tricks from Camilla and everyone else who was ripping it up in the park. Thanks to HTC One and Selfridges for letting us have it for the night.

So much fun, we wish we could do it again… OH WAIT WE CAN! It was so good we’re going for round two. Tuesday 15th April 6-9pm. More details to follow.
