Ski Halfpipe Approved for Sochi Winter Olympics 2014

The International Olympic Committee has given the thumbs up to Ski Halfpipe being included in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games in Russia.

Still nothing yet on whether snowboard slopestyle will finally get the nod from the IOC, a hotly disputed topic that has seen huge debate.  Riders including shred legend Terje Haakonsen and Chas Guldemond, who founded We Are Snowboarding (a riders union comprised of competitive snowboarders who are calling for snowboarders to lead their sport, rather than the International Ski Federation (FIS)) are not stoked in the least at the idea that snowboard slopestyle would continue to be governed by FIS if it were to be included in the Olympics.  A decision on slopestyle is expected in a “matter of weeks” according to Christophe Dubi, the IOC’s sports director.
