Surf n Turf Charity Event

Here’s a little update of what I’ve been up to recently and what’s coming up over the next few weeks…

MARCH:

– I just returned home from an amazing trip to Costa Rica. Every year I attend the Robert August Surf n Turf charity event in Tamarindo but this year had a twist on it. I flew down a few days earlier with Robert and Sam August to help Free Wheel Chair Mission pass out 1,100 wheelchairs to disabled persons in San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital city. Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed over 200,000 wheelchairs worldwide, including areas of extreme need such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Robert, Sam and I participated in the distribution of these mobility-giving chairs, as well as the narration of a series of short form video documentaries about this special day. These video segments are being produced by Endless Fun Productions, and will stream over Free Wheelchair Mission’s website, as well as be made available to broadcast outlets around the country and podcasts on the web.

This was a day I will never forget and I feel honored to be apart of the distribution. One by one chairs were quickly being assembled by charity workers as family and friends of the disabled waited patiently to receive their gift of hope. Tears filled my eyes as family members carried their loved ones into the building and were able to wheel them out.

Another special memory occurred for me later that day, as we special delivered two wheelchairs to the homes of families that were so destitute they were unable to make the giveaway. My heart sank as we entered the home of a young child who was crawling along the floor. His friends were playing along the dirt road outside the home while he remained in his house due to his immobility. It was an incredible feeling seeing the light in his eyes as we wheeled him outside to play amongst his friends for the first time.

-The Robert August Surf n Turf (following the wheelchair event) was a blast. Several people from all over showed up to support this great benefit. Four man coed teams competed in a day of surfing and golfing. I know what you’re thinking, “She golfs?” Ummm… lets just say I struck out a lot! All proceeds went to Cepia Foundation which gives back to the children of Tamarindo.

-I am finally doing Lasik Eye surgery on March 15th which means I will be able to see the world in a whole new light and will be out of the water for four weeks. Look for me sitting on the beach day dreaming and land surfing, but at least I can see now 🙂

April:

-I have been working closely with the Women’s Sports Foundation all year. You can check out their website at www.womenssportsfoundation.com as well as a profile on me at www.gogirlworld.org

On April 11th, I will be attending my second annual benefit in Beverly Hills known as “The Billie’s.” Hosted by Billie Jean King with special performances by Sir Elton John and special guest Sharon Stone, this night will be a night to remember. All proceeds go to helping girls get active in sports. If anyone is interested in joining me please contact me.

Thank you all for your support!
