The right attitude to snowboarding…

Our ex-boss and family arrived at 6.30am in the morning on Valentine’s Day, so we had to exit his apartment for the week. It was great to see him and the family even if it was for a very early morning chat!

Dave’s week away from the apartment was no hardship for him as he spent the week in Meribel with friends in a bling 5 star chalet with hot tub, spa, and 5 course meals. I moved in with Gilly (Our Camp co-owner and pro rider) by Dixie’s Bar for the week. So while Dave has been living it up and cruising the slopes in the 3 valleys I have had the opportunity to spend all my time in the park with the girls. We were also blessed with a great powder day and I was lucky enough to have Gilly to take me out to her best spots.

Riding with Gilly and Stef is great; Gilly with her skill and 11 seasons under her belt and Stef with her dare devil attitude meant that I have been out of the comfort zone. It is great when you’re with riders that just say “why don’t you try this now,” as you just get on and do it, and especially with Stef who always says “it really isn’t that hard, just do it!” I got the 360s this week (off the small kickers) and confidence going over the red kickers.

I told Stef and Gilly that they ride like guys (they are strong and brave riders) and I got a dissatisfied look from Gilly who quickly stated that “no, they don’t ride like guys but they ride like good snowboarders”. Fair comment.

I have shared some boarding wisdom this week with Hannah, my ex-boss’ daughter which has been really rewarding. I had her going over kickers, doing 50-50s over the boxes and ollies on the piste. It has been good for me too as she is goofy so I have been riding and demonstrating to her in switch.

Apart from hanging out with Gilly and Stef the other perks have been; eating salads, not having to think about or cook meat, having Sky News and TV, and having the internet to hand.
