The Ron Stoner Surf Photography Show

In 1965, Ron Stoner was the best surf photographer in the business. Every month, he shot the balmy beaches, bikini-clad girls, and achingly beautiful waves of Southern California for Surfer Magazine. Then, at the height of his fame, Ron Stoner walked off this sunny stage and disappeared forever. Mollusk Surf Shop Gallery presents ‘The Ron Stoner Show’, an exhibition from the legendary lensmen’s archives.

At the height of Ron Stoner’s career he scored six Surfer covers in a row. The best surfers in California called Stoner around the clock to find out where he was shooting next. Ron Stoner didn’t invent color surf photography, but he was the first real master of the craft. Stoner’s images are more than just a beautiful wave or a perfect moment, he captured the effortless and innocent grace of coastal California – pre-condominium, overcrowded lineups and the over-commercialized world of surfing we know today. Stoner’s work remains as gorgeous and vibrant as ever.

A carefully selected group of Stoner’s work from the archives of the height of his genius career will be on view at the Mollusk Surf Shop Gallery, 4500 Irving Street @ 46th Ave, San Francisco, California, from Friday August 8th through Thursday September 4th 2008. What better excuse for a trip to San Fran..?
