Some of the biggest names in international snowboarding are making their way down under to the Burton Australian Open Snowboarding Championships, which will kick off from September 1-5, 2008 at Perisher Blue resort in Australia.
As well as being a 5-star rated event on the TTR World Tour, the Australian Open is the second event of six in this season’s Burton Global Open Series (BGOS), where the top male and female champs will be battliong it out for the coveted trophy and a whopping $100,000 in prize money.
Battling it out in the halfpipe and slopestyle competitions will be an impressive field of the globe’s best shredders. For the women, last year’s TTR World Snowboard Champ Jamie Anderson will be looking to hold on to her lead in both the TTR and BGOS women’s rankings after her first place halfpipe and slopestyle finishes at the New Zealand Open earlier this month. But she’ll have stiff competition from the likes of Olympic gold medalist Hannah Teter (USA)…
Competition gets underway on Tuesday 2nd September with the halfpipe qualifiers. On Wednesday 3rd, the action moves to Perisher’s slopestyle course for the qualifiers. Then all eyes will be on the halfpipe on Thursday for the semi-finals and finals when the world’s best will fight it out for the Open title and a share of the $50,000 prize purse. On Friday, 5th September, the event wraps up with the slopestyle finals.
