Getting wet in Wales…
Despite the flooded fields, mud riots and subsequent cancellations at the festival site, the pro wakeboarding event on Saturday 21st July went ahead as planned at Pwllheli marina. The sun never quite managed to burn through the clouds and the rain never quite managed to stop spitting, but the riding certainly managed to impress the crowds.
In the men’s event it was Kiwi rider Brad Smeele that took the Wakestock title with a nuclear tantrum to blind, whirly bird and a huge 720. Jonty Green came in second, grabbing every trick and landing the sickest back lip on the gap rail, whilst 18 yr old James Young took third with yet another super technical run. Aussie rider Kath Moore was crowned ladies Wakestock champion with her stylish inverts and smooth spins, in front of last year’s winner Robbie Rendo and UK Fat Face team rider Jess Hilbery.
Make sure you get down to next year’s Wakestock festival, where we’ll be looking forward to a little more music and a little less rain! Visit www.wakestock2007.co.uk for more info on the event.
