New buildings are built everyday and we all worry about the amount of the planet that’s being covered in concrete.
Deforestation and extensive building plans across countries globally is a subject of tension, as nature needs to be preserved, while the growing population of the planet needs housing.
Could this evergreen skyscraper which is to be built in Lausanne, Switzerland by designer and architect Stefano Boeri, be the answer?
The 384ft tower is covered in evergreen plants of different sizes and varieties and has been named “La Tour des Cedres” (The Tower of Cedars.)
The 36 stories are the home to 100 trees, 6,000 shrubs and 18,000 plants, that make up 3,000 square meters of green space.
Which aint too bad going for a built-up inner city space!
Obviously this is no substitute for the real thing and green towers will never make up for the rain forests removed and habitats destroyed.
For those grey concrete jungles in inner city London, Berlin, New York and other major cities however, it could be the answer to the development of more buildings.
Even with environmental issues aside, I think we could all get on board with seeing some more green spaces around us when we go into the city!
