Love Rhinos? This Is The Saddest Story We’ve Heard All Day….

San Diego Zoo has brought us some heartbreaking news

It’s a sad week at San Diego Zoo.

Nola, a rare northern white rhino who lived at the zoo died on Sunday of at the age of 41.

With the loss of Nola, the number of the critically endangered rhino is now down to just three.

Hope is not lost for the species just yet, as a campaign to breed the last remaining rhinos is going strong.

“The only hope now is to develop assisted methods of reproduction to allow new northern white rhino calves to be born” say the campaigners.

“We aim to combine eggs from the remaining females with stored northern white sperm to create embryos that can be carried by surrogate southern white females.”

With such sad news about Nola, we hope that progress is made soon, so we don’t lose the northern white rhino altogether!
