Hugh Holland, skate photographer of skate photographers wasn’t a skateboarder himself. Pretty surprising, don’t you think? But sometime in 1975, driving up Laurel Canyon Boulevard, he encountered his first skateboarders carving up the drainage ditches along the side of the canyon. He knew he had found his subject. And the tanned, longhaired teenage skateboarders of 70s California worked out well as Holland’s niche. Stacy Paralta (top image below), original Z-Boy, and later director of the super famous skate documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys, was only one of them.
