Illustrated Innsbruck: Painting sticks

Words and images by Becca Allen

I was recently asked by Janine Toro to supply a photo of the contents of my bag for her blog what do you carry. So I gathered my belongings and snapped away. (My latest issue of Cooler was not in the contents as I have been so slack on changing the address on my subscriptions, so the pile of mags is mounting up at my parents’ house in England).

I have also been painting away like a crazy woman in the office preparing the POP for our latest SS13 delivery. A year ago I somehow thought it was achievable to create painted bundles of sticks to send out to our accounts as in store display and now it’s come down to getting them all sent out I am slowly regretting the extra labour I have given myself.

I have collected the bundles into our wooden handmade boxes and I am now taking in the fruits of my labour before dispatching them out over Europe probably never to been seen again.

The “stick painting” idea has been around for a while and it’s a great way to turn something mundane and useless into art. It’s surprisingly therapeutic when you get into the swing of it, I even managed to pull in a few mates to help me paint. Despite the extra work load it was nice for me to step away from my mac for a change!
