Three of Oakley UK’s female action sport athletes recently swapped their professional boards for road bikes cycling 300 miles to raise money for people affected by breast cancer.
British snowboarders Jenny Jones and Vicci Miller were joined by skateboarder Lois Pendlebury and Oakley staff as they cycled from London to Paris in a bid to raise significant funds for the Lavender Trust which is dedicated to supporting younger women with breast cancer in the UK.
Oakley UK has been a proud partner of the Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care since 2008. As advocates of a healthy and active lifestyle the company donates £10 from the sale of each of the four special edition sunglasses to the Lavender Trust. “However, in 2010 we wanted to get a little bit more personally involved in fundraising activities and to help raise awareness of this incredibly important charity” said Oakley UK’s Media and Communications Manager, Heather Pigott.
The team had to take on a different type of endurance training in the lead up to the event and tackled the route with the generous support of their friends at Giant Bicycles and Giro. The team’s trusty stead was Giant’s Avail 2 bike and protective gear was Giro’s Moza Helmet and Tessa Mitts. Of course the girls were also wearing Oakley’s breast cancer charity edition sunglasses called Commit!
We want to encourage more young people, from all walks of life to get involved! Find your own personal challenge in a bid to raise some funds and awareness for a charity that means something to you. It is a truly rewarding experience.
