SHE LOST IN RIO, BUT HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULDN’T FEEL TOO BAD FOR BIANCA BUITENDAG

Bianca Buitendag had an upset this week at the Billabong Rio Womens Pro, after her elimination by Tatiana Weston Webb. It was a bit of a surprise since Tatiana wouldn’t have ordinarily been in the contest as she was Courtney Conlogue‘s injury replacement.

Thankfully it’s not all doom and gloom for the 20 year old Roxy rider. Filmmaker Dan Mace just released this epic short surf film Disguised in Nature featuring  Bianca and Johanne Defay sharing the ups and downs of hectic comps and together travelling the world to surf.

Bianca explains her difficult relationship with the ocean:

The ocean is my escape. But in the same way it’s my arena. There’s expectation and it’s a place where I have to perform.

Unfortunately Bianca was called for interference in the second round of the Rio Pro, and after already needing a perfect ten for the win, Tatiana’s following wave quickly sealed the deal and pushed her combined score to an unconquerable 11.67.

As shown in the film, it’s a good thing best friend Johanne will be there for her. Sorry Bianca, but don’t forget what Johanne tells us at the end:

It doesn’t matter actually if we win or lose. It’s not about that. It’s just about what we love to do.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the short film below:
