Lovenskate, the East London based core skate crew, who have been catching out attention with their creativeness and slogans since 2001, are about to drop a new movie next week. In preparation for this visual treat, we chat to lady of the bunch and pro skater, Lucy Adams, on her hopes for her part in the long awaited, much anticipation ‘Lovenskate The Video’.

Skateboarding, why do you love it?
It’s really hard to pin-point exactly why I love skateboarding so much as it’s a mixture of so many things I think! I love the actual act of skateboarding the most, just riding and learning new tricks especially those that you feel are impossible sometimes. That’s a wicked part of it. I also love the spontaneity that skateboarding brings. When you just end up at a park or a spot and you’re session-ing something that you never thought you would be or skating with someone that you didn’t think you’d see that day – that is rad. I also like the other bits that come with skateboarding, the lifestyle kind of stuff. I love skate brands and clothes, graphics, music! Finally I love where it takes me! Travelling to places like Sweden and Australia to skate, but also to meet new people and see new things.

How did you become part of the Lovenskate family?
Back at the Girl Skate UK 2009 I won a Lovenskate ‘Real Girls Skate Curbs’ Board and I literally thought it was the s**t! I rode it at the Malmo Ultra Bowl Contest later that year and had so many compliments on it, people loved it. When I got back to UK I spoke to Ewen Bower about Lovenskate as he came to Crawley sometimes and always rocked LNS gear. He said Stu would be stoked that I was down for it and to go and visit him. So, one day I went up to The Mangle Studio and bought another board, it was a ‘Curbs Tremble When They Hear My Name’ one and Stu also gave me 2 free t-shirts! He said that although there wasn’t really gonna be a team, he could hook me up with some T’s and cheap boards. I was stoked. Then a few weeks later I got a ‘well there wasn’t going to be a team…but now there is’ email and he asked me to rep fully!’

What’s it like being part of the Lovenskate crew?
It’s really cool. I really love everything Stu does – graphics, ads, stickers, it’s always exciting and fun. Lovenskate doesn’t take itself too seriously and Stu is always down to listen to ideas – not that I really have them! It’s also really nice to know that someone appreciates my skating and is happy to give me boards to ride. I’m really thankful for that.

What’s your favourite Lovenskate slogan?
Hard one! The ‘Good Things Come To Those Who Skate’ is one of my favourites. I also like ‘Putting The Tea In Team’ and ‘Living, Learning, Loving and Skating’.

Do you like being the only girl on the team?
It’s not something that bothers me at all! I think the team is really strong – Al and Ewen have been killing it softly for a while now and hopefully when this video drops, people will step back and see those dudes differently. Both have rad pop and styles and can get gnarly. I think it’s good that Lovenskate appreciate female skateboarding and there have been a few nods like doing the ‘Real Girls Skate Curbs’ t-shirts and boards.

How do they support you?
Stu has a great positive mental attitude! That is supportive in itself as I feed off that and get stoked that someone is into what I do. Otherwise, it’s all about the boards and threads so I can look good when I play!

The Lovenskate Video drops next Wednesday. What’s it all about? And what should we prepare ourselves for?
Prepare yourselves for laughs, loving and skating! The skating will rip, the vibe will be fun and hopefully you’ll find it a bit different to your usual skateboard vid.

What do you hope from your part?
I hope it inspires other female skaters to go out and skate and push themselves. I hope it shows that I don’t take myself or my skating too seriously and that I have fun!

Finally…Winter skating, how do you survive through the rainy season when there are puddles all over your favourite outdoor spots?
Well I’m fortunate enough to have a skatepark next to the place I work! So if it’s a bit damp, I sweep the puddles out in the morning and then hopefully they’ll be dry by lunchtime. That doesn’t always work so sometimes I have to skate the local mutli-storey car park – not so far this winter but it’s inevitable! There isn’t really a good indoor place around my way. If you’re willing to brave the M25 then St Albans, XC or Bay66 are good but can get crowded. Just try to grab every dry moment! The concrete does dry quickly but prepare yourself by wrapping up warm and warming up well. Slamming in the first 15mins of a winter skate is enough to make anyone wanna go home crying!
