etnies Girl team rider Tarah Gieger continued her winning streak last weekend, taking home the 2006 American Motocross Association (AMA) Loretta Lynn Championship title at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The win marks the succession of several solid recent finishes for Gieger, including first place at the Mammoth Motocross last month and second overall in rounds three and four of the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA) Pro National Series.
Just as in their heated battles at the WMA round four in Washougal, Washington, Gieger and former three-time champion Jessica Patterson faced off against one another throughout the three-moto race.
In the first moto, Patterson secured first place, with Gieger taking second and Leah Cantrell third.
The second moto saw Gieger in first place with Patterson in second and defending Loretta Lynn champion and etnies Girl teammate Sarah Whitmore securing third place in her first race back from a dislocated shoulder.
In the third and final moto, Gieger quickly secured the first place position. Combined with her second place finish in the first moto and first place finish in the second moto, she was set up for the overall win; however, with two laps remaining, drama ensued as Patterson passed Gieger and held on to first place almost to the end. Unwilling to give up the title, Gieger fought back into first place coming down to the finish line, giving her the win and the overall championship. Congratulations, Tarah!
Catch Gieger and Whitmore at the WMA round five at Broome-Tioga in Binghamton, New York from August 18-19th, and round six at Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Pennsylvania, September 1-2nd.
