Big crowds (which included us!) lined Le Penon Beach in Seignosse this morning to watch Courtney Conlogue boss the final against Johanne Defay. And the waves properly showed up too giving the girls plenty of face to work with. Courtney (on her 21st birthday) continued the form that sees her sitting in third and a genuine title challenger for this year’s ASP Women’s World Championship with scores including a 9.60 and an 8.87, though to be fair to Johanne Defay she’d had two hours in the water this morning by that time as she’d just won the ASP Europe Pro Junior Title.
Of her win Courtney said:
I’m so thrilled to win this event again, it feels amazing. It’s been so, so tough out there today with lots of current and some crazy shifting lineups. It took a lot of hard work to get through heats so I’m super happy to have won. As always the crowd has been really good, giving us great support throughout. Even though I was up against a local French surfer Johanne in the final, I could feed off their energy and it helps when conditions are that tough.
