Danner Boots are iconic. Stylish, vintage, a little bit hipster and always adventure ready, they feature on the pages of many people’s dream shoe list.

It’s easy to see why these shoes are so popular, from their tanned leather finish with exposed stitching to the riveted D-ring eyelets and red laces, they are a perfect example of how a hiking boot can look incredible, while still doing a sterling job. Founded in 1932, Danner has been a staple of the outdoor market for almost a century. The doors of Danner Shoe Mfg. Company opened in the logging town of Chippewa Falls, Wis., where it then twelve employees worked to build affordable, handcrafted work boots and the finished boots sold for less than four dollars a pair.

In the decades since then, the company has transformed into a giant in the adventure industry. We recently tested their latest hiking boot, claiming to have both retro style and modern comfort.

The Women’s Mountain High 600 boots from Danner are a new generation of tech from the company. Through their collaboration with Vibram, they’ve added a new level of tech to the shoe, without losing any of the traditional style. The combination of the Vibram SPE midsole and Fuga outsole gives an unparalleled grip on wet and dry surfaces while providing superior cushioning without the weight.

This partnership is a major part of the brand’s new ‘Performance Heritage’ line which is based around combining their classic styling with lightweight innovation. Danner boots are designed to withstand the climate and terrain of the Pacific Northwest, therefore along with the Vibram soles, Danner has utilized a rugged, waterproof full-grain leather upper and Danner Dry waterproof protection.

Through dirt trails, wet sidewalks, mud puddles, and grassy fields, these boots are continuously grippy, comfortable and waterproof, without a single blister in sight, no matter how long you stay out on your hike. With their treated leather upper not only are you protecting against heavy rainfall, you can even splash through streams and rivers with no fear of dampness inside the shoe.

The technology in these boots is designed to make them “move with the natural motion of your feet.” We recently took these boots out of the box and straight out for a spin in the beautiful Swiss Alps and found that they’re not only supportive and comfortable for a whole day of hiking, they’re so comfortable that at the end of the day pounding mountain trails, you’re not even arching to take them off straight away.
