10 Unbelievable Places You Need To Hike Before You Die

You might not realise just how insanely beautiful these places are...

What makes a great hike? It’s a really good question.

Is it the country you’re in? The people you meet or the wildlife you see? Or is it just defined by a great view?

Whatever a great hike means to you, we can agree on one thing – it definitely involves marvelling at the world’s natural beauty.

We’ve put together ten hikes we think everyone should (attempt to) do before they die. What do you think? Any others you’d include?

1) Zion National Park, Utah, USA

Zion National Park is one of the most beautiful places in the United States to go hiking.

The famous Narrows canyon are definitely worth a look or take a hike up to Angel’s Landing, where there are only chains to hold onto but you’re rewarded with a spectacular view.

2) Tongariro National Park, New Zealand

Have you ever seen a lake like that before? Us neither.

The Tongariro National Park in New Zealand has a hike called the Northern Circuit. It takes three to four days as you make your way around two active volcanoes.

3) Grindelwald, Switzerland

Grindelwald is an hub for hiking in the Alps.

It is touristy but there is a reason so many people flock here – the views are unrivalled.

Down the valley, you will find Wengen, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen or Murren for extra trails.

4) Torres El Paine National Park, Patagonia, Chile

Hiking Patagonia’s famous ‘W’ route around Mount Fitz Roy is something you need to do before you die.

From soaring mountains to electric blue glaciers, you won’t be short of breathtaking views on this hike.

These guys have some good pointers if you’re planning on giving it a go soon.

5) Kalalau Trail, Kauai, Hawaii

This trail on the island of Kauai is only 11 miles – but you can be assured that it’s one of the most spectacular hikes in the Pacific.

Make sure you check the weather before you go as it’s notoriously dangerous for flash flooding.

6) The Highlands, Scotland

The Three Lochs Way is one of the best hiking trails in Scotland.

Tucked deep in the Highlands, you’ll pass Loch Lomond, the Gareloch and Loch Long on this three day hike.

7) The Inca Trail, Peru

It’s a little cliche but we couldn’t help include the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu in Peru – because it totally lives up to expectations.

You’ll cross mountainous terrain into sub-tropical jungle on this famous hike finishing at the Lost City of the Incas.

8) Camino de Santiago, Northern Spain

The Camino de Santiago is a famous network of route following an ancient pilgrim trail from France along the northern Spanish coastline.

It’s good value for money as accommodation is cheap, the food is fantastic and you’ll meet some amazingly hospitable people along the way.

9) Everest Base Camp, Nepal

Again, it’s one you’ve probably heard of but definitely need to tick off the list.

Hiking to the dizzying heights of 5,545m at Everest Base Camp takes three weeks, so it is not for the unfit or faint hearted.

10) West Coast Trail, Vancouver Island, Canada

This seven-day hike off the Pacific Coast of Canada is a fantastic journey through forests, bogs and beaches.

Keep your eyes peeled for black bears, wolves and eagles – as there are plenty around.

Make sure you buy a permit before you go (if you’re planning on camping) as only a certain number of people are allowed on the trail at one time.
