Travelling As A Woman Is Not Always Easy
Travelling As A Woman Is Not Always Easy
Traveling as a woman is very different than traveling as a man. We have to think about our safety often than men do because we are considered a target.
This is not to scare you into not travelling by any means—only to let you know that awareness is key. Staying safe while travelling solo is simple:
Do Your Research
When getting to a place that you are not familiar with, research a few things about the area. It only takes a few minutes but it will save you feeling unsafe.
Be Aware
Although you can let your hair down and have fun when you are travelling, it is important to be aware of your surroundings. The second you let your guard down completely is when things happen. Take time to check out what is going on around you and stay conscious.
Ask Questions
If you do not know something, ask. Often times, as women, we get intimidated to ask questions however, this is very important. Ask the locals for advice or fellow travellers. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
Don’t Go Out Alone at Night
It is easy to make friends in your hostel or even on the buses, trains, and planes you take to get to your destination. Although I know it is tempting to go out alone at night, I recommend going with at least one other person. It will end up making you feel much more comfortable and prevent you from feeling unsafe.
