My Hero: Beyonce by Coco Ho

In its short life My Hero, the feature that’s best read with Dave Grohl singing softly in your head, has thrown up some sweet inspirations. From surfers to nannas with the odd (thankfully credible) celebrity thrown in for good measure. Laura Enever picked Leonardo DiCaprio and now Coco Ho, who we chatted to at last weekend’s amazing Swatch Pro Girls France, has named Beyonce her hero. She tells us why:

I will probably pick my most obvious to the world hero, which is Beyonce. Even though she’s not an athlete I’ve seen a lot of documentaries and interviews and she definitely treats performing like an athlete treats a comp. She uses her platform as a voice obviously and she uses her power in a good way. People use fame in so many good and bad ways and nowadays you see way more bad than good but you only see positive things of her ever and that’s so inspiring. She’s so well rounded, she’s sporty, she’s fashion, she’s gangsta, she’s private with her love but shows the stuff that everyone wants, that’s why I really respect her.

She’s a feminist and that stuff is really important as it gives us inspiration and obviously she’s really good at what she does which inspires me too. She always wants to do her best performance and she says every concert she wants to go bigger and go better and you can look at that as surfing, every event I want to have one good heat or something pivotal and better than the last as I think that’s how you’ll eventually be number one, just picking a way at getting in tune you know.
