There are a few options when it comes to finding somewhere to live on a ski season.

Some jobs provide accommodation. Chalet staff are usually given housing as part of their work contract. This is usually shared dorm-style living arrangement with fellow staff members.

Ski Season Jobs: How To Get A Job In A Ski Resort

If your job does not provide accommodation, then you will be looking to rent somewhere. Lots of ski resorts have shared accommodation blocks that seasonaires can book into.

These are big communal houses that you pay a set rent for a shared or private bedroom with shared kitchen and living areas.

Alternatively, you can rent an apartment or chalet with friends or find companions who are looking for a flatmate.

How Much Does Ski Season Accommodation Cost?

It totally depends on what kind of ski season accommodation you go for. If housing is part of your job contract, then you might not pay anything at all.

However, if you are renting accommodation for the winter, it’s usually around £2,000 to £2,500 per person for five months.

This could include bills (in which case you’re winning) but it might not – it just depends on the contract.

You will probably need to purchase contents insurance on top of this – to cover your personal possessions – but this isn’t usually more than £10 per month.

Where To Find Ski Season Accommodation

It’s tough finding ski season accommodation, particularly if you are hundreds of miles away from where you’re going to be living.

It’s worth contacting the local estate agents in the area. Just Google and find the first few that pop up.

Alternatively, there are a whole bunch of websites dedicated to seasonal rentals. Take a look at SeasonalAccomodation.com, SeasonHousing.com or LiveTheSeason.com.

Another useful place to find flatmates is on Facebook. Plenty of resorts have their own local seasonaire or expat Facebook Pages where anyone can ask questions and put shout-outs for flatmates.

Check out the Morzine Crew – Talk To Me! page – one such example from the French resort.

Top Tips For Finding Ski Season Accommodation

  • Start early. If you leave it until November, the chances are you’ll be left with something expensive, crap or really far from the ski lifts. Best to get looking from June onwards.
  • You will pay more if you want live closer to the ski lifts or town centre. You just need to work out whether you’d prefer to be within spitting distance of the clubs or have your own washing machine and hob.
  • Fancy staying for the summer as well? Year-long rentals are often cheaper in the long run, so it might be worth looking into.
