Hyper-progressive contests with the kind of airs you only used to see at snowboard comps are all well and good but sometimes we like to kick back and watch some surfers put themselves on cruise as they style it out across the waves. Kassia Meador, Margaux Arramon-Tucoo you know the kind of cats we’re talking about.
So we’re stoked to see Approaching Lines are organising 5 to 1: Fin Fair where “Style & Decorum Rule the Waves” at Porthtowan Beach on September 28.
It’s a one-day contest open to men, women, groms and grannnies and the judging is “not about the set up of your stick, it’s all about panache and the way you cut a dash.”
Here’s some more official blurb:
“With an emphasis on good vibes, good rides and good times, the contest – open to guys, girls and groms – consists of five categories: single fin; 2 fin / twinnie / fish; Thruster or any 3 fin set-up; 4 fin set up / quad; 5 fin / Bonzer with a winner in each. Boards must be sub 9ft and watercraft will go though rigorous scrutineering to ensure no logs have slipped through the net.
The grand final will be held between the winners of each class, with the victor crowned the KING OF THE FINS. This event is all about style with judges looking for smooth expressive surfing, linking power with flow and stoke whilst balls out going for broke. Entry is open to all but places are limited and available on line on a first come, first served basis HERE.
