Alana Blanchard gets wild card entry for 2014 ASP Women’s World Tour and inspires some dude to write a poem

While we were busy raving about Carissa Moore’s second ASP Women’s World Tour title win we forgot to focus on the real nugget of news behind the EDP Cascais which was Alana Blanchard not finishing in the top ten. This could have meant she didn’t qualify for the 2014 ASP Women’s World Tour (cue uncontrollable sobbing from her sponsors, event organisers and almost every guy that’s ever watched a surf contest) but tristesse was short-lived as she was awarded the Wild Card entry to next year’s tour. Phew.

The full list of qualifiers for next year’s tour are:

Carissa Moore (HAW), Tyler Wright (AUS), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Courtney Conlogue (USA), Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), Coco Ho (HAW), Lakey Peterson (USA), Bianca Buitendag (ZAF), Pauline Ado (FRA), Laura Enever (AUS), Malia Manuel (HAW), Dimity Stoyle (AUS), Nikki Van Dijk (AUS), Paige Hareb (NZL), Joanne Defay (FRA)and Alessa Quizon (HAW)

We’ve written before about how Alana Blanchard, who at the time of posting has 10,740 Facebook likes for the bikini shot above, gets the rudest comments on her publicly -viewable Instagram but today she was treated to a poem from a guy named John AL Campbell:

Between the waters, and the skies, do we miss your eyes, your beautiful gaze. Are do we want more of your enchanting smile, do we want it to stay. That is the question, that I ask myself today. No matter what, the answer is simple, I will always cherish and respect, Kauai’s Mermaids. Aloha Alana

Easy as it would be to mock I think it’s a definite step forward from SOMY and some of the other chat Alana Blanchard usually gets which we posted here and some of the other comments on this Facebook post, like the guy that says “Show“. More poems please.
