Chatting to Aimee Fuller at the X Games!

Although super busy with training for the first ever Euro X Games, UK shreddette Aimee Fuller found some time for a quick chat with us to give us the lowdown of what’s going on in Tignes… Interview: Anna Langer, photo: Alex Henderson Hi Aimee, thanks for having some time for us!

No problem, things have been delayed today anyway.

What are you up to right now?
I’m in Tignes already to train for the X Games. The course is really nice, 7 big jumps and 2 gaps, it’s so much. They changed it quite a bit from yesterday though as lots of riders hurt themselves. Lisa Wiik dislocated her elbow for example. They’ll change it again for tomorrow though so we will see how it works then.

That sounds pretty tough. What’s the vibe like down there though?
The atmosphere is super nice, everybody is super excited because it’s the first X Games ever in Europe and such a big event too. Everyone is hanging out together in the riders lounge and the vibe is really cool.

Are you nervous?
Oh yes, this my biggest comp so far so I’m pretty nervous. Not right now, but I’m sure it’s gonna start tomorrow morning.

How do you deal with that?
Don’t know really, I just try to concentrate on my run, try not look out too much what the others are doing and concentrate on my riding.

Is it different to other comps you’ve done? More pressure?
Of course, it’s such a big name and the first event like this in Europe. Especialy the big name is the main part I guess.

How did you prepare for this contest?
I only found out I’m ten days ago!! I have just been riding a lot the whole season, spending a lot of time on snow. Last week I spent the week riding in Morzine, I tried a few new tricks and I hope I can take them to the Slopestyle course over here in Tignes.

Did you see any of the other girls ride already?
Yes, there are always five or six girls hitting the jumps together basically. There are two girls that really stand out, Jenny Jones and Jamie Anderson. While everyone else is still trying to get the speed right they’re spinning in all directions.

Do you already have your run planned?
I don’t have it planned but I have an idea. I’m gonna keep that secret though…

Haha okay. What do you expect from this contest?
I really just want to have fun, and put down the best run I can do. It’s my first year at X Games and I am really stoked to be here, I will be stoked if I land what I have planned so we will see.

What else are you up to this winter?
There’s a movie being produced called Chalet Girl, a bit like the surf movie Blue Crush. I want to try to get into that somehow, be an extra and meet some stars, haha. And then I’ll probably go to the Brits to compete and I actually also wanted to go to the Roxy Chicken Jam in the US, although that clashes with the Brits so I don’t know yet. In April I’ll be riding some slush in Morzine and Avoriaz to learn some new tricks.

Cool, do you have something special in mind?
I want to get the 7s on lock and learn BS Rodeos.

Wow, that’s pretty scary, isn’t it?
Actually not, it’s just about being upside down. I actually like that better than normal spinning, haha!

That sounds like fun! But for now we wish you good luck for tomorrow! Thanks very much for your time.

Make sure to check back to get all the news on the X Games and how Aimee is doing! And if you wanna see some action of here, check out her trip to Woodward this winter!
