We were sat in the Bongo sheltering from the howling winds and torrential rain on West Shore when we got chatting about The Arctic Foxes and their record breaking mission to become the first British, all-woman team to cross the Greenland ice sheet. I had seen a news item on Kite Worlds web site saying they were doing power kiting taster sessions for women and that’s when we decided to contact them and see if we could help. It was all confirmed and we got onto Flexifoil who sent us a pink buzz and BIG buzz from their fantastic Punk range of kites, these were the perfect kites for this event as £10 is donated to Breast Cancer Awareness for each kite sold from Flexifoils Punk range.
The Saturday started well with the Angels and the Foxes meeting for coffee and bacon butties, it was great to meet these girls, they are a great team. The girls who were there for lessons were really excited and ready for their first taste in power kiting, many of them having travelled from London and some further. It was smiles all round with every one loving the Buzz and BIG Buzz, it wasn’t only the girls having the lessons who were enjoying them both the Angels and the Foxes were flying them and loving it today! There was a great atmosphere with the girls who had come for lessons staying around after dark, so we all had drinks and shared our different kiting tales!
The wind was in full force on the Sunday and the rain was with it, but 20mins before lessons were due to start the sun came out and the black clouds cleared leaving lovely blue skies. There was another great turn out of girls for the lessons and the blue sky was much appreciated! The buzz and BIG buzz were so much fun in the stronger winds today but still safe enough for Andy (Traction Kites) to teach with. The wind carried on building and swung round enough so the Angels could get a little session on the water to show the super keep girls learning another side of kitesports.
Many thanks to the Arctic Foxes for organising a great weekend and Andy from Traction kites for being really patient teaching so many girls!
