Echo Mountain Park is one year old! They are celebrating their first birthday with a Liptricks Not Lipstick rail jam and party on Saturday, March 3.
One year ago this month, Echo’s newly formed park crew set the first few boxes and rails. The lift was cranked up for the very first time, and Mount Evans heard the sweet and alien sound of edges sliding rails. The whoops of delight were almost audible in downtown Denver.
Just two years ago, where Colorado’s premier all-park ski area now stands, there was nothing but trees, dirt and an abandoned shell of a building, derelict since the old Squaw Pass ski area shut down in the 70s. Now, turn the final bend on highway 103 outside of Evergreen and you are greeted by a glow of lights, illuminating three main trails loaded with booters, boxes and rails of all sizes: Denver’s closest ride.
Echo has embarked upon a huge journey in the past twelve months. “We had a mammoth endeavor in front of us, and we managed to assemble together an incredible, devoted crew of people who work harder than is humanly (sometimes humanely) possible,” says Doug Donovan, Echo’s General Manager and co-founder.
“We are thrilled with our first year, and we are very proud of what we have created. Thinking back to a year ago, we never even imagined the vibe we have here – days like our recent Team Challenge are proof of how much energy our visitors bring. The local populace has really created Echo and made it theirs. Looking to the year ahead, we are excited to hone an innovative, world-class park for Denver and the Front Range.”
Echo will be popping the champagne on Saturday, March 3 with their most inventive rail jam to date, SoBe Liptricks Not Lipstick. Debuting their new 50-foot skatepark-style bowls, stolen from the Honda Session, the course is going to be unlike anything else you’ll ride all season. There’s $1k in cash and $1k in prizes up for grabs, festivities begin at 10am, and there will be free SoBe and bbq for all riders. After party at The Shelter, 1037 Broadway.
