The Kustom Jetty Surf Pro Junior Girls Final took place at Jan Juc beach in Victoria, Australia, this weekend.
Fifteen-year-old French surfer Pauline Ado beat Airini Mason in a close final that took place in 1m surf on Saturday. Pauline, who late last year won the World Junior Championships in Brazil, was thrilled at her win.
“I know Australia has many of the best young surfers competing and I knew this would be a hard event to win so I’m feeling good about winning today,” she said.
Mason was happy with her 2nd placing: “The waves were simply terrible for our final so there was little either of us could do,” she said. “I’ve finished the best of the Australians so that is good for me and I’ll lead the ratings into the next event in a couple of weeks so I’m pleased.”
Mason posted a significant and big semi final win over her biggest Australian rival in Sally Fitzgibbons. Mason opened with an excellent 8.5 in the semi and that ride proved decisive as Fitzgibbons chased her throughout but was unable to score better than a 5.75.
