Red Bull Snowboarding Gap Session Postponed

The Red Bull Gap Session 2007 has been postponed from 10th February to 10th March 2007.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions in Germany, organizers of the Red Bull Gap Session have postponed the event and now plan to stage the event on 10th March 2007. The lack of snow and the ongoing warm temperatures have not allowed for adequate preparations of the event set-up, which will consist of a kicker measuring 20 meters in height, 70 meters in length and 50 meters in width. This super-sized booter requires approximately 35,000 cubic meters of snow, and the current weather situation has not so far allowed for this significant quantity to be transported to Garmisch.

The rescheduled event will now see the world’s best riders gathering on 10th March 2007 in the famous Olympic ski stadium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where they will attempt to push the sport of snowboarding to the next level. Besides event founders David Benedek and Nitro rider Christoph Weber a bunch of world-class riders will participate at the Red Bull Gap Session. Riders will meet up in Garmisch one week prior to the start of the contest to shape this beast of a kicker, which should enable one of these incredibly talented riders to set a new airtime world record. The extremely steep kicker will see riders clocking up speeds up to 100 km/h as they approach the take-off, catapulting them more than 10 meters into the air and allowing for jumps of more than 30 meters in distance.

The Red Bull Gap Session is recognized among riders as a true highlight in the snowboarding season, allowing them to meet over the course of one week in an effort to join forces and push the evolution of snowboarding. Traditionally, the tight schedules imposed on most contests do not allow for a week of creative experimentation – but the main goal of the Gap Session is so much more than crowning a winner. The event is about fostering an innovative spirit and shaping the future of snowboarding. When all is said and done, the Red Bull Gap Session is not just a simple meeting of the world’s best riders; it’s also a gathering of good friends.

That’s why there are no judges judging the performance of each rider. The riders themselves will determine who wins the Red Bull Gap Session, and who takes home a Supermoto DR-Z400SM from Suzuki. The rider achieving the longest airtime, meanwhile, will be rewarded with an acrobatic flight experience, allowing the rider in question to fully enjoy his passion for flying.
