Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day This Weekend!

The Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day hits 65 Australian beaches this weekend with their all female learn-to-surf program that actively encourages non-surfers and beginners of all ages to experience the waves with customised introductory surf lessons. It is the world’s leading all-girl surf program and runs at over 60 registered Surf Schools right around the Australian Coastline.

The event occurs this weekend December 9 and 10 and 2006 will mark the 16th year of operation. Last year saw a 15% participant increase, introducing 6,705 girls to the sport of surfing.

The key objectives of the event have always focused on fun and participation in a supportive and professional environment. The lessons provide a non-threatening and healthy way for girls of all ages, background and ability to be introduced to surfing and the surfing lifestyle.

Lessons are held exclusively at Surfing Australia affiliated surf schools to ensure safety and professionalism as a proven means of quality assurance. A customised lesson plan is designed specifically for all-girl classes with an emphasis on fun, quality and safety. Classes cover everything from putting on a wetsuit to standing up and ripping the waves.

In 2006 the Girls Go Surfing Day will partner with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help raise awareness and donate funds for research of prevention and cure.

Surfboards and equipment will all be provided on the day. All you need to bring is your towel and swimmers.
