- • Check with the local police or the internet whether your route is passable. A lot of mountain passes close after a heavy snowfall – don’t get caught out.
- • Ensure you have winter tyres – not all weather tyres or full-on studded ones (these are banned on European motorways), but tyres with a heavy duty winter tread. My Volvo XC90 has brilliant winter tyres which make a difference
- • Avoid sharp breaking as this will cause you to skid and loose control. If you do skid, try not to panic and, instead, steer into it.
