After accepting the second place trophy at the Billabong Pro Maui, Hawaiian pro surfer Keala Kennelly announced she’s been cast in a new series on American TV channel HBO scheduled to run this autumn.
Making a Hollywood-like entrance day one at the Billabong Pro Maui, Kennelly came back from behind after missing her first heat due to flight delays. She advanced through day one, dropping into heavy 8-10 foot barreling rights, breaking boards and posting a 9.5 and 9.0 in round three from the judges.
Charging heavy surf is the kind of feat Kennelly is recognized for, this year earning titles like “2006 Female Surfer of Year” and the Arby’s ESPN Action Sports Awards. After seven years of competition on the Women’s World Championship Tour, Kennelly has made a grand exit, temporarily trading the tour for the HBO big screen.
This isn’t the last time you’ll see Kennelly, watch for her on HBO as she continues to lead women surfing.
