Naomi Edmondson Interview

Age: 22

From: Northamptonshire

Briefly describe yourself… At the moment I’m trying to ski for as much of the year as I can. This season is going to be the first winter I’ve spent just skiing and not having to work at the same time which I’m really excited about. Hobbies outside of skiing are photography, music and art.

Talk us through your average day… Get up around 8.30, get changed, eat breakfast, gather all my ski kit together and head out at about 9.15. Return to house having forgotten goggles, mobile, suncream, poles or similar. Leave again ready to go skiing.

Once at the top of the mountain I’ll do a few runs to warm up and get my legs back into skiing. Then head to the park, probably to the pipe to ski it before one of the walls melts away into the afternoon. Have some lunch at Chez Flo which’ll probably be an enormous Croque Monsieur and which I’ll try and pretend to myself will be burnt off with the afternoon’s skiing. Head back to the park and hit some kickers which have softened in the sun a little so are less brutal on the landings. Session the jumps for a while, maybe moving to the rails after a couple of crashes, then leave the park for one last hoon down to the bottom. Arrive back home and get myself a tasty treat of French bread and Marmite. Shower, get changed, eat dinner and head into town for a couple of beers.

How long have you been riding? Since I was about 5 or 6 years old so about 16 years on and off.

Best achievement: 2nd at the Orange European Freeski Open this year.

Best trick: 540 Critical

Biggest rush: Hitting a big kicker and stomping a new trick.

Scariest moment: My most nervous moment was probably at the start of my run in the finals of the European Open. As for scariest moment, I have plenty. I can’t pick out any single one.

Favourite riders: Pep Fujas Andy Mahre for their style.

Favourite place to ride and why: Snowpark NZ. They keep the park in amazing condition and the atmosphere is so cool. The level of riding is so high and its pretty inspiring watching some of the guys ripping through the park.

Top 3 tunes: Fell City Girl- February Snow, Jeff Buckley- Last Goodbye, RJD2- Ghostwriter.

How do you stay in shape? I try and either go for a run or a cycle before work during the off-season. When I’m away this winter I’m going to try and swim as much as I can as well.

Top training tip: If you’re going to do a workout do it early in the morning as it sets you up for the rest of the day, gives you loads of energy and makes you feel much more alive.

Favourite foods: Baked garlic salmon, roast pork and breakfast cereals.

Must-have beauty product: Stick on beauty spot.

Beauty tip: Drink lots of water.

Favourite clothing brands: Oakley

Fashion tip: When it comes to ski pants they can never be too baggy.

Favourite quote: “It’s as hot as the sun Lyn!”

Before I die I want to: Just have as much fun out of life as I can.
