Nikita’s Ana Rumiha shares some insights

She won the infamous Nikita Chickita amateur contest two years ago and has mixed up the snowboard scene like the true whirlwind she really is. Injuries have prevented her from rummaging about the contest scene too much, but that doesn’t mean this shred lady has been sitting around twiddling her thumbs. Oh no. Taking it easy doesn’t equal boring for this one for sure…

So here’s a little recap of her season that she’s written for us…

I spent the early season with my friends at the Slovenian resort Vogel. It was the only place close to my hometown Zagreb that had any snow at the time. Season usually starts pretty late for me while waiting for the snow and doing all the exams.

I don’t have a local park. We’re actually lucky if we get any snow to even ride the local slope and I had to stay close to home for a month because of all my college obligations.

So this year I decided not to attend the big contests at the beginning of the season but to ride for myself, slowly warming up for the season. It turned out great and I let myself progress safely.

After a few rail jams and contests I did at the beginning of the February, I returned home and realized Zagreb was covered in snow like it hasn’t been in years. I was really surprised but also aware that it would only last for few days and that we’d have to be fast if we want to have any fun with it. Luckily, my two friends, Toni and Vid, were down for it.

We managed to hit four rails in one weekend and it was cool that we somehow improvised in-run ramps out of trash cans and stuff we found on the street. Another cool thing is that nobody ever rode any of those rails so something new was happening. Random spectators had all kind of comments but mostly positive ones. Some old lady even told me she has a better rail for us than the one we were riding. I guess she must have had some secret spots from her childhood, haha. So besides shoveling, pulling others and giving my back some stair massage all weekend I got down the tricks I wanted, plus I got some useful experience for the next snow we’ll be rewarded with. My ‘shred the hometown’ list is pretty long but this was a promising start. Big thanks to my friend Fran for the photos!

Right now I’m riding in Slovenia, seems like spring is coming a bit too fast but I won’t argue with the sunny, slushy days.

Hopefully I’ll have some more fun riding and filming with my friends around this part of Europe for next 20 days. My lady friends and I are making video episodes called Boobish, it’s hot so stay tuned for the next one coming out soon.

After the snow melts in my region I’ll be happy to go to Iceland for the Nikita shoot with my team ladies. It’ll definitely be something new for me.

I’ll still try to do a few contests, especially Peanut Butter rail jam finals in April. But I’d also rather be surprised with where the season will take me, it’s much more interesting that way…

So make sure to check back once in a while so you don’t miss what else will be going on with this crazy little shred head!
