Now this is a seriously good idea. In Istanbul, they’ve set up vending machines for stray animals in the city.
It releases food and water for animals in exchange for old plastic bottles that need recycling.
Take a look at the video below (it’s in Turkish, but it gives you a good idea…)
When a person drops in a plastic bottle, it releases more food for the animals.
A company called Pugedon came up with the ingenious idea. They’ve even made it self-sufficient by powering it using solar panels.
There are around 150,000 stray dogs and cats in Istanbul alone. So not only is it producing food for animals with no home, but it’s encouraging people to recycle plastic and not litter.
While there might be issues about encouraging stray animals and how they should be dealt with, this is a pretty good compromise in the meantime.
Now, 29 other countries have signed up for these dog vending machines. We think it’s a great idea!
