Would You Be Able To Just Drink Juice For A Week?

Jason Vale's luxury detox retreats are seven days of pure exercise and no food. We went to try it out...

Jason Vale AKA the juice master has been transforming people’s lives, including his own, through juicing since 1999.

His sole mission is to literally ‘Juice the World’ by getting a juicer in every kitchen and making sure people have the knowledge to use them properly on a daily basis.

No stranger to illness, Jason started his juicing mission as a self-confessed smoker, drinker, junk food addict with chronic allergies and skin complaints.

Now seven books and two retreats down the road he’s still as passionate as ever, that if he can do it, so can everyone else.

As part of this mission last year he opened his second retreat in Portugal, the Juicy Oasis.

It’s become a regular haunt of UK celebs including Samantha Womack, Beverly Knight, Ashley Roberts and Carole Vorderman.

After a recent retreat to Juicy Oasis, singer/presenter Ashley Roberts said: “I feel rejuvenated, I feel cleansed, detoxed. It’s just been an incredible experience and I’d definitely recommend it,” and actress Samantha Womack called the retreat “life changing!”

Located deep in the heart of sun-drenched Portugal next to a sprawling lake, this 5 star hotel is a luxury retreat where you’ll be worked out, nourished and pampered for seven days. And despite the lack of food you really will find it hard to leave.

The indoor spa is stunning with an Epsom salt bath and sleep pods hanging from the ceiling; the infinity pool overlooks the lake; the juice terrace is filled with beanbags and comfy sofas.

For the more active, there’s daily yoga, inspirational talks, rebounding, cardio classes, beach volleyball and Nordic walking. But the real beauty of this place is you can be as busy or lazy as you want to be.

Many guests opt in and out of activities, choosing to spend time on their balcony looking out over the mountain range.

Despite the lack of food, you really will find it hard to leave…

Despite the comfy bed, hot power showers, fluffy bathrobes and slippers, Juicy Oasis is not a ‘spa hotel’ but rather a seven-day (14 or even a month if you really want to go for it) retreat journey designed to fully re-charge every aspect of your mental and physical health.

Rarely if ever, do the words ‘luxury’ and ‘detox retreat’ go together, but at Juicy Oasis Boutique Health Retreat & Spa the two have merged perfectly.

The retreats are run on three key principles that Jason believes have a profound impact on your health, gratitude, movement and raw food.

“Appreciating and being grateful for everything you have right now and everything that will come into your life, even if you don’t do anything else, will have the biggest impact of your life and health,” says Jason.

“It’s no surprise that some of the oldest people in the world are often the happiest and most grateful.

“More important than diet even, is the necessity to move your body every day. We have become a nation of people now sat behind a desk staring at a screen all day.

“You MUST make sure you get out and do something active a couple of times a day. Movement keeps the lymph system working, removing toxins and dead cells and an increased heat rate and oxygen are like super fuel to the body.

“The life force that the animals of the world live off, including us, is to be found in raw, uncooked fruits, vegetables, plants, nuts and seeds.

“Now in today’s modern world it’s pretty impossible to consume entirely raw foods, or huge amounts of fruits and vegetables. That’s where juicing comes in.

“You are giving your body all the vitamins and minerals it needs in liquid form, that goes straight to the cells where its needed. A combination of the right attitude, daily exercise and the right nutrition and you have the perfect combination to life-long health.”

According to a survey by Travelex, the number of Britons planning a fitness holiday has doubled in the past year with almost one in two looking into an activity break.

One in three of those people want to ‘tone up’ on holiday while nearly a quarter said they would like to lose weight.

Juicy Oasis is already fully booked until the end of May so it seems more and more people are ditching ‘fly and flop’ holidays and opting for healthy holidays instead.

Amen to that!
