Yesterday, Harriette Thompson became the oldest woman to complete a marathon – aged 92.

She crossed the finish line at San Diego’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on Sunday in 7 hours, 24 minutes and 36 seconds.

I don’t think I’d be living today if I didn’t do this running

The classical pianist from North Carolina only began running marathons in her 70s. This will now be her 16th marathon, which she finished with her son Brenny running alongside her.

Thompson has had a tough year so far. Her husband died in January and she’s been suffering from a staph infection in her leg. But that didn’t stop her completing the 26.2 mile race.

“I don’t think I’d be living today if I didn’t do this running,” she told The Guardian.

She’s raised over $100,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since she started running.
