What do you miss most?

The space, going out to the bush, being close to the elephants and the wild animals, the sunsets, it’s a big culture in Zimbabwe, they’re called sundowners, as the sun sets people drink beers or gin and tonics with their family or close friends and watch the sunset.
What do you think of African inspired style?

I understand how people see ‘African’ as a style, but Africa is so huge, and so diverse, there isn’t really an African style, but I can see the influences of certain African countries in the clothes we were shooting.

You said you’re a big fan of African literature.

I studied multi media journalism and I’m mainly trying to specialise in African current affairs and politics. So I read a lot of books about African independence and colonialism. But also fiction, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is one of my favourite books, it’s so good, and then obviously I’ve read Mandela’s autobiography because he is my hero.

What would be the best solution for Zimbabwe?

We need someone new and someone young, this will be Mugabe’s 34th year in power, and the only main opposition against him is a man called Morgan Tsvangirai who is in the same sort of age bracket, those are people who are still bearing the grudges of colonialism, who fought in the independence war, it is important to remember all those things and the way that Britain went about colonising Rhodesia wasn’t good and I don’t blame the local people for being angry, for wanting their farms back. I think we need someone who’s willing to completely forgive and start afresh, like Mandela did, but there is no easy solution.
