With each season the Vans Girls collection has been expanding and incorporating more fashion elements and styles into the line. For Fall 2008, designers took even more risks with new styles and colours, presenting the most fashion forward collection yet. The line was inspired by two main themes, Rocker Baby and Glamorous Future. Throughout the design process the two themes began to work together inspiring one another, forming one strong look to the collection. Each piece can easily stand alone or work together with other pieces from the line.
“Rocker Baby” is an ode to grunge with a feminine twist. Inspired by core Vans style, this is who the VANS girl is. The line has rebellious undertones, music driven, mixing early 90’s grunge and mid to late 80’s punk rock. The colours in this group are heavy in black and grey with pops of rich colours such as Koolaid, Wild orchid, Torrid, and Poison. Checkerboards and stripes are still prominent while animal prints (zebra and leopard) are a new addition. Taking cues from the grunge look are plaids and flannels, ripped up tees, tie-dye, and thermal henleys.
“Glamorous Future” is the more fashion side of the line incorporating much more feminine details. This group includes feminine sweaters made of pointelle and novelty knots, wrap details, and belled sleeves. New styles include knit jumpers, baby doll tanks with feminine detailing of satin ribbons and oversized buttons.
For footwear, Vans Girls stays true to the classic Vans heritage, the Skate group continues to be athlete driven with men’s take downs and athlete inspired colours. Sitting alongside this is the fashion line, with ballet pump style offerings, hi tops and new for this season, sporty wedges. As always there is a large range on offer in the Classics line with legendary styles such as the Slip-On and Authentic being offered in slimmer profiles in tartan, plaids and an array of block colours.
Previewing Spring 2009, the designers followed the mantra, “anything goes”. It’s all about detail and colour throughout the collection and great novelty pieces that work together cohesively. Vans Girls has expanded to include a wide range of dresses, fashion tops, jackets and bottoms and this season the collection is broken down into three main stories including Vintage Vacation (hippie surf feel), Dulce Girl (heavy rock and punk influences) and Street Funk (inspired by the late 80’s, early 90’s). Expect great things!Click on the gallery button (top right) to check out the new collection!
