Dasha Love and David Bailey – a match made in photography heaven, plus something that was totally bound to happen anyway. Ok, so they haven’t taken any pictures together yet… although, in a way they kind of have. Dasha was commissioned to interpret the David Bailey t-shirt collection that features some of his most iconic photographs. We chat to her about taking pictures of Bailey’s pictures.
How did you end up shooting for the David Bailey t-shirt website?
Well that’s a funny story. I saw this boy at a house party and thought he looked cool so I went over to say hi. He just FBed me the other day to ask if I wanted to shoot the story.
Who are your models and why did you choose them?
They are my friends Lily and George, I think they are so beautiful and different and that they would look super awesome together. To be honest I’m really over agencies, styling and things like that, I want to do more documentary style photography from now on and commission my cute friends. I have pretty much stopped shooting for other people and I want to concentrate on curating my magazine that I’m putting together at the moment.
What do you like most about David Bailey’s work?
I mean he’s an iconic photographer, I like his pictures of models and all the cool friends he got to hang out with in the 60s
What are the photos on the t-shirts you photographed of?
That was Johhny Depp and Mick Jagger
And here are the Bailey originals:
Who are your favourite old school photographers?
Not anyone ancient really, maybe Sally Mann and I came across this amazing photographer Jessica Dimmock, she is so so cool.
What was the concept of your shoot?
Some kind of fan obsession and I really wanted to make the shoot look punk, like weird crops and not so neat, I just want to totally step away from the conventional fashion style finally.
And this is how she’s stepping away from convention, check out Dasha Love’s work update video where we asked her what about the secret project the Cooler x O’Neill ambassadors have planned…
