words and production by Britta Burger
Uniqlo have turned all their ultra light down products into portable and pocketable pieces. All jackets, parkas and vests come with a tiny little bag they miraculously fit into. Fashion editor Britta Burger rounds up the Cooler crew to try out the latest cuts and colourways.
I went krishna orange in my UNIQLO ultra light down jacket, RVCA jeans, CHEAP MONDAY shirt, AMERICAN APPAREL socks and SUPERGA platforms, a suitably low key colour to casually hang out at the local skate park. Contrasting eyeliner optional.
Designer Alexandra Groover took her UNIQLO jacket to a very autumnal Norway and told me she’s glad she did, apparently it’s pretty chilly over there. But with 90% down and 10% feathers and a fill power exceeding 640 (550 is seen as high quality, just to put things into perspective) her black ULD jacket is easily warm enough to be teamed up with some of her less technical high fashion pieces.
Back in the UK ad executive Lauren Lidford figured out it was still warm enough to rock a little black vest under the purple collarless ULD compact jacket (new style btw) for some weekend longboarding.
Editor Sam Haddad went for the ULD parka style, not entirely unexpectedly in blue (definitely her favourite colour) and not entirely unexpectedly combined with a pair of VANS (definitely one of her favourite footwear brands).
Intern Mia Kingsley has the same jacket in canary yellow and decided to combine it with a MASSIVE CRUSH sundress (check out the interview Mia did with Massive Crush’s Anna Ryon here) and SAUCONY trainers.
Legally trained boardpsorts style icon Adi Mani in goal at Clissold Park, subverting the inherent poshness of her tartan print UNIQLO jacket with a lot of gangster attitude.
And now the good news (if you’re from the UK or France)… make like us and wear (or display) a UNIQLO ultra light down item of your choice, take a picture (or make a video), upload it to Instagram or twitter, hashtag #ULD by Oct 20 and win £300 worth of UNIQLO swag.
