East London’s Stolenspace gallery presents ‘Warhol Surf’, a pop art surf board exhibition by super shaper Tim Bessell, who has handcrafted more than 46,000 boards so far.
The imagery is taken from the gigantic oeuvre of Andy Warhol, one of Bessell’s biggest inspirations: “Andy lived down the street from me in La Jolla in 1967 when I was 10 years old and he was producing the San Diego Surfer movie. As I was growing up, my mom who was an artist was always pointing out Andy Warhol’s art to me. In college, Andy Warhol was one of my idols in the pop art world.”
Bessell, who eventually managed to meet Warhol in New York, will show San Diego Surf, Warhol’s surf film at the exhibition, plus there’s going to be a pop up Tiki bar run by Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen. Don’t miss if you’re in East London in August…
