Another episode of Alana Blanchard’s Surfer Girl series has just dropped and this time our hero finds herself at a fashion shoot. It seems a pretty damn cool shoot though with retro vibes aplenty as these shots above and below show.
But when during the shoot she’s asked if she’s seen the photos, Alana Blanchard gives this surprising and candid response:
I try not to look at the pictures too much just because sometimes I can be really judgemental on myself
The obvious thing to say would be “Well if Alana doesn’t think she looks hot what hope do the rest of us have!” but we’re not about that here, we get that happiness and confidence often have very little to do with how you look and it’s more a default setting that you feel inside.
She also had these interesting points to make about women’s surfing within the rest of the industry:
For some reason girls’ surfing, well we’re not always in the surf magazines, it’s very male dominated. I think I’m in non surf-related magazines more than I’m in surf magazines at this point and I think they’re now realising oh surfer girls are actually pretty cool. They do surf good and stuff so one day they’ll be more like women covers on the magazines because you don’t ever see women on the covers of surf magazines.
Carissa Moore aside that is.
