Way back in 2007, when Santigold was called Santogold, and our feet were on perma-bop to Chromeo, women’s snowboarding had stacks of cash. The magazine (NEW ISSUE OUT NOW!) offices were wallpapered in the stuff, while the mag was still published six times a year and we never had to run kinda inappropriate Call of Duty ads on our site ha!
Full length all-girls snowboard films were still very much in play too. That’s all changed now, partly as there’s less money about but also because it’s easier and some would say more effective to whip out a series of webisodes throughout the season, see for example Helen Schettini’s Hel of a Time, than save up for clips for a movie the season after. Who sits down with all their buddies to watch a full length snowboard movie on repeat these days anyway? Not enough people we say! So thanks to Leanne Pelosi of Runway Films we’re bringing the full length movie back with her 2007 epic LaLa Land which you can watch in full below.
It stars Leanne Pelosi herself, plus Hana Beaman, Erin Comstock, proper legends such as Victoria Jealouse and Tara Dakides, a super young and stylee Jamie Anderson, Laura Hadar, Anne Flore Marxer and more.
It’s a super enjoyable watch awesome sequences, backdrops, hairstyles and rad creative idents like this:
And the standard of riding? Pretty damn rocking. Big cliff drops, gnarly rails, pillow lines, the odd house huck and snowman slash thrown in for good measure, though, perhaps due to the growth and professionalisation of slopestyle in recent years, the girls definitely go bigger off kickers these days.
PLUS it has the best late naughties (is that what we call it!?) soundtrack.
And it keeps its slams how we like em, in context rather than front and centre.
Watch it on a loop below:
