Pyrenees Photo Blog

Lipstick Pyrenees trip was finally one most of us could go to and I was looking forward not to being limited to only 3 riders, as it usually is when filming. Urska [Pribosic], Rene [Gallo] and I flew early from Ljubljana to Toulouse, rented a car, did some shopping since our filmer Rene is the biggest shopaholic of all of girls, and headed to Coutarets where Conny [Bleicher], Diana [Sadlowski] and Basa [Stevulova] would meet us in the night. What I didn’t know was that Suray, Roxy rider from Andorra, was coming the same night too and I was suppose to tell her where our accommodation was but I fell asleep. Not knowing where to go she, naturally, went straight to the bar and the rest of the girls picked her up somewhere on the street in the middle of the night when they arrived. I haven’t met her before but that was definitely a sign she would fit in just perfect so she did.

While we were thinking of all the jokes we could pull out for April fools we became victims of the best one. Already from the village under the mountain it was obvious there wasn’t much snow but what we weren’t expecting was that there was no park at all, just leftovers of what might have been a park some weeks ago. After making a few laps around the mountain, checking snow conditions and unsuccessfully trying to make an arrangement with the snowcat, the only solution to save this trip was to completely change the plan.

In the next few hours we packed our snowboards and headed to Hossegor. It’s spring anyway and all of us were excited to breathe in some ocean air and catch a few waves. After a 3h drive we were running barefoot in the sand, already thinking about the new destination we would go to the next day. We started this trip as a traveling circus and we’re about to pull it out like that all the way. Basa hooked us up with a place to sleep in Le Surfing and we spent the evening around the fire with a few friends, random dogs and occasional unknown person from the camping place as it usually is on the french coast.

The next morning we went for a messy longboard surf as the weather was getting worse, and after few hours of laughter and getting washed out we were ready for another long drive, this time to Andorra. Since the report promised snow and Suray already called her mom to prepare us dinner and a place to stay, I was looking forward to visit another country I’ve never been to before. The day wouldn’t be fun if something hadn’t gone wrong so Suray had a flat tire somewhere in the middle of nowhere and since her tires weren’t changed for years it was quite a mission to get if off. Luckily we had our Slovakian mechanic Basa who got her gentle lady hands dirty right away and figured out the technique to fight the rusty metal.

We arrived in Andorra late that night and I was surprised how very little space there was to build anything, yet they had huge hotels all over the place. People were extremely friendly and as soon as we arrived to the resort we were given ski passes with our names and a copy of a Spanish mag we were in. The park looked amazing but unfortunately weather report was wrong and instead of snow we got rain again. What else was there to do then to think of another destination and seize this week to the fullest? We met Crista Leonard, a photographer, for a dinner and decided to go to Barcelona first thing in the morning. She told us we could stay in her place with her roomies Claudia and Aurelie, which just made this tourist trip even easier.

At this time Conny was already traveling back home, but her flight got canceled and she was stuck in Toulouse, while Urska stayed at the apartment because she wasn’t feeling well and missed out our Spanish plan. Inspired by Conny’s canceled flight we decided to trick Urska and tell here we’re actually flying home the next day and kept Barcelona plan a secret. I know it was cruel to play with sick Urska, but this was the only chance when her brain was slow and we could’ve tricked her so we did. She was mostly numb during the drive and figured it out on the city entrance under the big Barcelona sign but was to weak to hate us too much. Though, I’m pretty sure we’re gonna get this one back ten times worse since she already arranged her parents to pick her up at the airport and friends for dinner at home but ended up in another city again.

Days in Barcelona were again mostly rainy but fun. Rene of course went shopping, Diana was as usual looking for the weirdest shoes, Basa for high heels, Urska was still hating us and I was just eating ice cream. We visited Method for a a short interview, checked all the Gaudi work, went out, got some good sleep and went back to Toulouse where we had our return flights from. We returned the rental car realizing we’ve done more than 2000km in just a few days.

I’m writing this on the early morning train to my hometown Zagreb which is going to be the 7th city I’m going to in 8 days. Although I’m looking forward not to change bed/floor for few days, it is snowing in Austria and the whole crew will most likely be together again sooner than I think. Thanks to everyone who gave us a roof this crazy week and to our filmer Rene for probably being the only man who can handle us. Check out our new podcast, have fun, there is always a way to make things better if you’re with the people you love!
