Catching A Wave
Catching A Wave
When a wave is coming, spin your board around so you’re facing the shore and lay down with the nose of the board slightly out of the water.
As it approaches, it’s time to paddle with strong deliberate strokes until you feel yourself being pushed and taken by the wave.
If you think the wave is going to break earlier than expected, slow down your paddling for a bit and then speed up when the wave gets closer.
As you practice this, you might find that you miss waves you were sure you had caught.
Similarly, you will think you’ve missed a wave, only to find yourself suddenly being pushed down the front of it when you don’t expect it!
After time, you’ll recognise the feeling of successfully catching a wave.
