As the nights get darker and the days get colder, the last thing we want to think about is going outside in the wintery conditions to workout. Traditionally, this time of year is associated with thick jumpers, hot sweet coffees and long Sunday afternoons next to a fire in a country pub, rather than hours spent in the great outdoors, running trails and stomping city paths.
This year however, we’ve decided to not give into the changing seasons and instead team up with KEEN’s TrailFit movement to beat the wind, rain, snow or mist to keep an outdoor lifestyle all year round. The chance to visit the great outdoors through our weekly exercise routine doesn’t end when the weather turns cold. Through embracing Mother Nature this winter, we can learn to benefit from outdoors exercise no matter what the season. After all, the worse the weather, the emptier the trails.
You need to move your body and feel those endorphins in a natural, outside environment. Pounding the city streets at dawn, walking home through the parks after work or hitting the trails and going off the grid at the weekend, exercise is a lot more than just an hour at the gym, counting calories on your elliptical. As well as being good for your body and health, it’s proven that spending time outside is good for clearing your head and general happiness, yet so many people go from their home, to their office, to the gym and back home.
While cold autumnal weather makes us all want to bunker down under a warm blanket with a brew and leave exercise for another day, the most adventurous among us know the benefit of pulling on a warm jacket, lacing up our shoes and going outside. TrailFit is a fitness movement for all adventure-seeking women who want to spend as much of their spare time as possible outside, it focuses on enjoying being active while also getting fit.
We need to open our eyes to the possibilities around us for ways to get outside and workout more imaginatively in both an urban and countryside environment. Let’s start exploring our surroundings, moving our body and be part of the TrailFit revolution.
