Dave Rastovich’s Surfers for Cetaceans organisation is premiering its highly-anticipated Minds in the Water film in the UK on July 14th, the final day of the International Whaling Commission’s controversial annual conference, that is held on Jersey as well.
The S4C event rounds up the first International Whale Celebration, a week of positive, cultural events to highlight the beauty of whales and raise awareness about their ongoing plight at the hands of whaling nations, navy sonar and pollution. The week is put together by Women for Whales, a conscious collective of female surfers, artists, writers and yogis, including Natalie Fox, ambassador for Roxy and the Soul Surfer Foundation.
If you can’t make it to Jersey for the event, hold your own paddle out ceremony for the whales over the weekend of the 9th – 10th July.
Tickets for the MITW screening on July 14th cost £15/£12 and are available through Jersey Arts Centre, Phillips Street, Jersey, St Helier, JE2 4SW, 01534 700 400
Minds in the Water documents Rasta’s five-year journey from apathetic pro to respected ocean activist, and features epic surf footage alongside a vital environmental message. S4C members will host a live Q&A session after the screening.
