The all-new Boardfest Triple Threat is an innovative cross-over sporting competition featuring top women professional surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders competing against each other across all three boardsport disciplines.
The Boardfest Triple Threat will be staged at the Huntington Beach Pier from September 1-3 (Labor Day weekend) during the fourth annual Boardfest all-girl action sport, music and empowerment festival.
An estimated field of 48 world-class athletes will compete in preliminary rounds on Saturday and Sunday. The final 12 participants will square off on Monday. The surfing portion of the Boardfest Triple Threat will take place south of the pier, home to myriad grand prix events. Skateboarding will be held on an ocean-view, modified half-pipe. Snowboarding occurs adjacent to the pier on a custom-built, 30 foot high platform covered with 40 tons of freshly blown snow.
The final 12 Boardfest Triple Threat contestants will be scored on several factors including originality of maneuvers, difficulty, amplitude and the all-important “awe” factor. The competition order is tentatively set to begin with surfing, followed by skateboarding and concluding with snowboarding. Crowd appreciation will also be taken into account on the final judges’ tallies.
The cumulative point’s leader following three days of intense competition will be awarded a grand prize and the first annual Boardfest Triple Threat trophy signifying this major athletic achievement.
Although the field will be limited due to time constraints, more than 100 top-notch action sports athletes are expected to submit entries to the Boardfest Triple Threat. A panel of esteemed industry experts, using such factors as current U.S. and world ratings and prior titles, will determine which girls make the initial cut.
