Park City in Utah, USA, is preparing for the penultimate 5-Star event of the snowaboarding world tour. The Swatch TTR 5-Star World Superpipe Championships will be taking place on March 8th with the world’s best riders competing for 850 valuable TTR ranking points and a share of the hefty $90,000 prize purse.
The Park City Mountain Resort is pulling out all the stops, constructing one of the biggest and best pipes in the world. Shaped by their state-of-the-art Zaug Pipecutter, the 22-foot Superpipe is sure to host some highly progressive riding with 17 male and 10 female high-profile shredders aiming for the title and looking to earn as many points as possible as the tour approaches the final stretch.
Top female Halfpipe snowboarders Torah Bright (AUS), winner of the 06/07 TTR Tour Championship Title, and Kelly Clark (USA), Olympic Halfpipe Gold Medalist, will be battling it out in Park City for the coveted TTR World No.1 spot. Clark will have to win the Swatch TTR 5-Star World Superpipe Championships with Bright placing 4th or lower in order for Clark to move up to first place in the TTR rankings. Ellery Hollingsworth (USA) will also be competing in Park City for a spot in the TTR Top 10.
In the men’s category, Kevin Pearce and Shaun White will be in battle for the Halfpipe Title, as Pearce looks determined to extend his current hold on the tour lead and keep White at bay. Pearce and White fought to a climactic finish at the 6-Star Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland, with Pearce emerging victorious after his final run. Pearce will remain Swatch TTR World No.1 for the time being, with White able to sneak into the TTR Top 40. Park City will no doubt witness a display of incredible halfpipe prowess from these two top transition riders.
With just a few more opportunities to earn TTR ranking points, the chase for the 07/08 Swatch TTR Tour Championship and chunk of the $250 000 end-of-season prize purse rages on.
